Frequently Asked Questions

What is counseling, and how can it help me?

First off, if this is your first time seeking counseling, I want to congratulate you for taking such a significant step toward prioritizing your well-being. Counseling can feel intimidating to some whether it's your initial session or you've been attending for years. It involves willingly entering a vulnerable space to discuss topics that may feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar. However, as your counselor, I will meet you where you are, and together, we will collaborate on enhancing your overall mental health.

How do I know if counseling is right for me?

I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to explore counseling. Navigating life's challenges can be tough for anyone. We all experience highs and lows, mental health struggles, overwhelming transitions, and moments of disconnection. Having a nonjudgmental support system that provides unconditional positive regard, challenges you to grow, and supports your journey toward fulfillment is invaluable.

What can I expect during my first counseling session?

This is a big question lots of folks wonder about. You do not need to come prepared! During our first session, we will do an intake. This is the process of getting to know you and starting to understand your concerns and goals, along with gathering relevant information about your background. This will be an opportunity to discuss what brings you to counseling, ask any questions, and start to develop a plan.

How long does a counseling session last, and how often should I attend?

Sessions typically last 50 minutes. The frequency will be determined together, considering your goals and availability. Initially, I often recommend meeting weekly to establish our relationship and delve deeper into your needs.

Is counseling confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is paramount. As a counselor, I adhere to strict ethical standards to protect your privacy. Information shared in sessions remains confidential, except in rare instances where disclosure is legally mandated to ensure your safety or that of others.
